Racing Team instruction is designed for junior sailors with demonstrated sailing ability at the intermediate or advanced levels. Two racing teams are available for Optimist Dinghy, and 420's.
Our Optimist Racing Team is designed for Intermediate level sailors. For maximum skill development, Opti Race Team members are strongly encouraged to combine Race Team enrollment with Intermediate sailing class instruction. Our 420 Racing Team is for the more advanced sailor.
Instructional content for each team will focus specifically on the development of skills necessary for competitive participation in racing that particular class of boat. This will include: Racing Safety - Racing Terminology - Rules of Racing - Sail Trim and Boat Handling for Speed - Starting Tactics - Mark Rounding Strategies - Roll Tacking - Spinnaker Handling - Competitive Spirit and Team Play - Inter-club Regattas
Additionally, racing team participants will have the opportunity to travel and represent AYC at various interclub races and regattas throughout the season including the MIRC's on Wednesdays, and the Junior Olympic Regattas in July and August .
